FT-817 with a 17ft vertical antenna.

I use the same antenna (mfj 1979).

Welcome aboard!  :)

Thanks for the welcome.  I like that MFJ vertical and it works well but I'm trying to switch to a lighter vertical.  A 5.4m fiberglass fishing pole to support a small ~16.5ft wire.  Hopefully it can produce the same results.

Hello Carson,

Great! Welcome to this friendly forum, I also operate with the FT-817ND and about the same vertical
antenna, but built up with Buddipole parts.

Check my vertical on my chain link fence, it is really amazing what I can do.

Check my QRZ Page.

I also use a 5,4 meters fishpole antenna for all bands from 20 meters and up, I adjust my radial
and I just change my radiating wire for the band I want to go.

All the very best 7 hope to meet you on the air,

Michel, thanks for the message.  I've just tried out that fishing pole setup and it seems to work well.  Just checked out your QRZ page and it looks good - I can't say I've met any other 100% QRP operators yet.

I used a 17 ft vertical when in college.  Made it from two pieces of electrical conduit. Made a lot of contacts with a DX-35.   Secret of working DX is learning how to listen.  Once you become a hunter it get easier.

I love your you tube videos of the northern lights.

Welcome to the group.  Share your projects.
