Despite the forecast a good evening for DX
« on: July 20, 2014, 23:26:44 UTC »
With an SFI of 87 and propagation forecasts showing "poor" on the upper bands I decided to give it a try.
15m brought ZP6CW first call and about the only signal on the band too.
Then I moved to 17m which also sounded very quiet but still brought me Poland, Ukraine and surprisingly London (must have been first hop as it was 599 x2) and then 3 contacts into USA including WA6TFZ in CA with a 559 report.
Just goes to show that radio and QRP are full of nice surprises and one shouldn't give too much attention to theoretical propagation forecasts. Strange things happen!

Yep! just because the prediction for propagation and Solar numbers aren't looking good that does NOT mean there isn't workable DX awaiting to hear your Cqing. I don't know how many times after looking at the "numbers" and a supposed "dead-band" conditions and hearing nothing....upon me calling Cq I've worked some pretty nice/rare DX. Just call CQ ....you might be pleasing surprised  who on our planet  answers your CQ. Remember....NO CONTACT CAN HAPPEN IF YOU DON'T PUT OUT A CQ....GIVE IT A TRY.
always my BEST to All my fellow Brother and Sister Qrpers and with many 72.
